This was the first fan drum I made back in the day. It was composed of a pink ceiling fan that I garbage picked, a small conga drum and some lumber I used to make a frame. The pink ceiling fan had rubber hands stapled to all four fan blades so they would hit the conga drum when it turned. The fan was wired into a (house) dimmer switch which would both turn the fan (and fan lights) on and also control the speed. I could use rubber bands to tie back some of the rubber hands to get varied drumbeats. I did several shows with this. One of the ones I remember most was Club Bart in Ferndale (which is no longer there). Probably one of the reasons I remember it the most was because the stage was up behind the bar and I (and whoever else had to help me at the time) had to lug this thing up there and it wasn’t light. But it was a real good time when everything was all said and done.
After time I stopped using this and it just kinda sat around. Eventually I dismantled it but kept the drum which I used when I made Fandrum 2.0 – Link here: https://f.mtr.cool/hysovwzxfz
