Cliff Bell’s – Buffalo Nichols

Back in March I had the privilege of performing at the beautiful and historic Cliff Bell’s in Detroit.  If you’ve never been there before, you should go check it out sometime. Cliff Bell’s is a premier jazz club which was originally founded by one time speakeasy owner John Clifford Bell who in the 1930’s after prohibition ended set out to make “the finest restaurant in America”.  Over the years the club went through a number of phases including changes in ownership and even becoming vacant for a number of years.  In the last few years the club has been renovated and is truly an incredible place to spend an evening.  Read more about Cliff Bell’s fascinating story here.

I was also excited to share the stage that night with Buffalo Nichols and his band.  I had read that Buffalo did blues with digital samples behind it, which I had never heard of before, so I didn’t know exactly what to expect.  But he showed up with a full band including a fiddle player, upright bass player and drummer who were all excellent.  Buffalo played a few songs solo and then had the entire band came out.  They played a incredible mix of blues, country and folk songs.  What an amazing evening of music and fun.

Thank you Cliff Bell’s and everyone who came out!
